Philosophy

Much of the off-grid industry is overkill and too expensive. A Tesla power wall is awesome but is expensive and fancier than what most people need.

This industry is full of people who mean well and want to help, but they are not licensed professionals with experience. I’ve seen my share of YouTube videos with bad and unsafe advice. Anyone going off-grid should have a professional.

I think that many people are interested in taking action, but it is too big of a technical hurdle.

The above is why I started this company.

The term “off-grid” means different things to different people. From living in a remote cabin to living in a subdivision with a single solar panel and battery to charge a cell phone. The reasons you want to be more self-reliant can vary and are your own. I’m here to help.

Who I am

I’m an engineer with twenty years of experience and a life-long love of designing new and interesting systems. I believe in keeping things simple.

I am a licensed engineer with experience in an array of different things from super computers, nuclear reactors, and driving nuclear-powered submarines as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. Locally I’ve worked for TVA, Bechtel, Oak Ridge National Lab, and have volunteered for many years helping kids build robots. I started getting into off-grid systems on my own and lithium-ion design at work and home (and building stupid-fast e-bikes for fun). I then in 2021 decided to turn this experience into a business.

You Off Grid, LLC is a veteran-owned business.
